Did you know that there was a time when the Rolex Daytona was NOT well loved? Prior to the resurgence of watch collecting in the 1990s, the Daytona was a no sale for many Rolex dealers. [I know, I used to work for an authorized dealer.]
Even if, when Italian collectors ongoing scooping up case ref# 6239 and 6241 chronographs, calling them the "Paul Newman Daytona", values went through the roof. Coincidentally, the Italians saw Newman wearing the watch in one of his racing movies and on the racetrack. Thus, the reason for the association — and moniker.
These days, an original "Paul Newman" sells for more than ,000USD.
